We happily found ourselves at the agiturismo Casa Rosa, just outside of Assisi in Umbria, during the last week of October, and, luckily for us, the sun broke through and the olives were ready for harvesting. It was a modest quantity of fruit, as the weather had been so dry in the months previous, but the workers (that is us) were eager and willing. We were Jennifer (owner) and Zoe (her sister), and Maggie and Frank (Norwich), Margaret and Heather (Tasmania), Francis (world wanderer and Jennifer's right hand man), and Sharon and John (Hawaii). We had great fun, a great couple of lunches (it took two days), and a lot of laughs. I didn't exactly go to Italy to pick olives, but it was one of the highlights of the entire trip. Here is the story in pictures, from picking to pressing.
